6 Hotel Destinations that offer Conscious Luxury in Nature

Vacations can work wonders, revitalizing and evolving us, particularly when we travel to a fresh setting. Our senses come alive, soaking in the sights, sounds, and scents of new surroundings. Now, imagine adding the power of nature, or white sand beaches, delightful culinary adventures, a cozy bathrobe, or a room with a view. Not only do your senses get a boost, but you also discover a natural remedy for stress relief. You discover luxury travel in a way that works for you and works for the sustainability of our earth.

In no particular order, here are 6 hotels that are destinations in and of themselves and will hopefully inspire your upcoming travels.

  • FORESTIS
      • 📍 Located in the thick of the forest in the UNESCO Dolomites, Italy.
      • FORESTIS is a serene sanctuary nestled in the South Tyrolean mountains, surrounded by lush forests for nature walks, hiking, biking and seasonal varying activities. The spa at the hotel harmoniously blends with its breathtaking natural surroundings, offering a tranquil and connected retreat. This is a nature lover's paradise, in an isolated setting where the hardest decision to make is if it’s a spa day or hiking day. Taking the power of nature into the hotel rooms and all experiences offered, sustainability is core to the tranquility and the entire design.
      • Who I like this for: Adults. Love this for a best friend's trip. Love this for a solo wellness getaway. Love this for a romantic extension to your honeymoon. However, it is important to note that the property is not very ADA friendly.
      • When is best to go: All year round FORESTIS has something to offer! And yes there is skiing in the winter months!

  • São Lourenço do Barrocal
      • 📍 Located in the heart of the Alentejo in Portugal
      • São Lourenço do Barrocal is giving hospitality a deep meaning. A hotel so beautifully hosting guests in a way that will make you feel at home. Their home. An actual home! A Portuguese farmstead estate, where in all the right ways heritage and tradition never got lost. For 200 years, it has been thriving off their land. Meadows, vineyards and a winery, centuries-old olive groves, stables, an orchard and remarkable gardens. There is actually something for everyone on site.
      • Who I like this for: Everyone! Families included. In fact I love this for mutli-gen families. Adults not wanting to be near kids need not worry because the design of the properties accommodations allow for a balance of seclusion and openness.
      • When is best to go: All year round. Perfect for a 3-4 night stay. Best accompanied with time to travel around Portugal or combine with the Azores.

  • The Green-O
      • 📍 Located in Greenough, Montana (~ 30 minutes from Missoula Airport)
      • So many boxes are checked for my nature loving travelers when you check in to Green-O. The property is all inclusive with + up opportunities so it helps that little decision making is needed. Here you can relax in beautifully designed rooms that blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Wake up to the sound of birds chirping and enjoy organic, locally sourced meals at their on-site restaurant. Hiking trails from the property. All rooms are designed as individual homes, yes there are treehouses. This is truly a peaceful oasis of a playground for adults
      • Who I like this for: Adults only. No kids allowed. Which as a mom, I find part of the appeal. It’s the perfect honeymoon, anniversary, babymoon or romantic getaway. It’s no doubt a splurge, so a special vacation indeed.
      • When is best to go: All year round. Activities here change per season. Recommend for 3-4 night stay. Some dates have a 3 night minimum requirement.

  • Rosewood Schloss Fuschl
      • 📍Located on the shores of Lake Fuschl Salzburg, Austria (between the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Salzburg and Hallstatt)
      • Opening in July (yes I am booking already). There is something to be said about staying in a refurbished castle that has 400+ years of history. There are stories to unpack and stories to be told, because it’s a newly renovated property in a historically rich destination. Embrace outdoor adventures with activities like hiking, kayaking, and golfing amidst the undeniably jaw dropping Austrian Alps backdrop. The destination and properties experiences are designed to discover and explore the Salzkammergut region and balance exploration with slowing down and lake life embrace.
      • Who I like this for: Absolutely everyone seeking relaxation and adventure and a deep connection to nature.
      • When is best to go: Late summer thru Fall. However there are activities and options and beauty in all seasons. Would recommend at least a 6  night stay. Anticipate the popularity of this property as an extension to a winter break trip to Vienna.

  • Bawah Reserve
      • 📍Located in the reserves of the Anambas Islands, Indonesia
      • Only accessible by seaplane, pickup and transfer is arranged from Jakarta or Singapore. Bawah is a group of six tropical islands that feature 36 consciously designed suites and bungalows. This is barefoot luxury at its best. Surrounded by lagoons and coral reefs as well as dense jungle canopy and mangroves, this eco-hideaway is an explorer's dream. At the reserve, there is a spa complete with four treatment rooms, a tennis court, yoga deck and plenty of non-motorized water sports including kayaking and paddle boarding. In the evenings there's even an open air cinema to enjoy watching a film under the stars on the beach. Bawah is on the map but not on everyone’s obvious travel path and the remoteness is part of what makes the destination so rewarding.
      • Who I like this for: Off-the-beaten path travelers. Honeymooners. Open minded water loving adventure travelers. However, it is important to note that the property is not ADA friendly at this time.
      • When is best to go: This is a wonderful pairing as an extension to a Bali or Jakarta or Singapore travels. Best to visit between April thru October. At least a 4 night stay (afterall you made the trek so make it worth it).

  • Tamarindo Four Seasons Resort Mexico
      • 📍Located in Jalisco, México (~ 50 minutes from Manzanillo airport within the 3,000-acre peninsula that drapes between La Manzanilla and Barra de Navidad)
      • Never settle for just the beach when you can also have the jungle. The only thing separating the intersection of water and jungle is a strip of sand and your margarita. Here 'rewilding' is the ethos and a core principle. In addition to the resort’s efforts to preserve and regenerate the biodiversity and environment of its nature reserve, a sustainable food and beverage program is made possible by Rancho Ortega, the low-impact, 35-acre farm on property (yes and yes). Guests can even take a tour of the farm and do guided nature walks to learn about the culinary process, farm and property philosophy of balance and sustainability. The design of all rooms and suites are spacious and clean, intended to feel like your own home on property, truly secluded from others. This is really truly a place you go and do not leave the resort. Like most Four Seasons properties this is for everyone and that also means on site activities, dining options for all, beach programs, and kids programs.
      • Who I like this for: Everyone! Lovely for couples. Lovely for families. Those sick of Cabo :) Those wanting a resort that offers everything, but doesn’t feel like a compound. Golfers, this should be on your radar! However, it is important to note that the property is not ADA friendly at this time.
      • When is best to go: Between late October thru April and I suggest at least a 4 night stay, but there is enough to do on site to justify a week vacation.
